What I Wish I Knew…

"I will never go back to school." This was what I told myself when I completed my bachelors degree. I was convinced that I did not have it in me to do any more schooling. But, after three years of substitute teaching and a pandemic shutting schools down, I was left in an uncomfortable position. Should I wait for things to open back? I mean, I was very comfortable being a substitute teacher. Or should I finally go back to school and pursue teaching? Ultimately I decided to go back to school and get my teaching credential.
However, one thing I wish I had known years ago, when I had graduated with my bachelors degree, was that TCSJ existed!
I always thought that going back to school meant getting into more student debt, and that thought made me sick to my stomach. However, it is possible to go back to school and not get into more student debt; and Teachers College made that possible. However, there are many different credential programs that exist out there though, so what makes Teachers College so special?
Teachers College offers two pathway programs to obtain a teaching credential: A residency program and an internship program. This allows you to choose the program that is best for YOU. Additionally, TCSJ offers payment plans, which is the route I took-and what made it very attainable financially. Not to mention, the instructors are invaluable in their knowledge and are particularly unique to TCSJ.
In addition to credential programs (teaching and administrative), TCSJ also offers a Masters of Education Program, with six concentrations to choose from (Which also offer payment programs). The financial flexibility of TCSJ is what I believe to be one of the unique components to Teachers College.
